Hosting
This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you visit the site, Vercel automatically processes technical data that your browser sends, in particular your IP address, the date and time of the request, the requested URL, the referrer URL and your browser's user agent. This is necessary to deliver the website and to keep it secure and stable.
The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is the reliable and secure delivery of this website. Data may be transferred to the USA. Vercel is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, so the transfer is based on the European Commission's adequacy decision (Art. 45 GDPR). More information: Vercel Privacy Policy.
Analytics
To understand how the site is used, I run a self-hosted instance of Umami. It runs on my own server at netcup GmbH, in a data centre in Vienna, Austria (EU). The tracking script and its requests are served from this domain, so your browser does not connect to any third party for analytics.
Umami does not use cookies and does not track you across websites. Your IP address is used only to derive a hash that rotates daily and to determine your country. The IP address itself is not stored. Stored data is limited to the pages visited, referrer, browser, operating system, device type, country, anonymous page load metrics (Core Web Vitals) and a few events such as clicks on outbound links or the contact button.
The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is improving the content of this website.
Map
The website can show an interactive map of Cologne (via "Köln" in the menu bar). It is not loaded automatically: until you click "Load map", no connection to the map provider is made. After you click, map tiles and styles are loaded from MapTiler AG, Switzerland. Your browser then connects directly to MapTiler's servers, which transmits your IP address, the date and time of the request and the address of this page to MapTiler.
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR), given by clicking "Load map". Your choice is not stored, so the map has to be loaded again on every visit; you can withdraw your consent at any time by simply not loading the map or by reloading the page. Switzerland has an adequacy decision from the European Commission (Art. 45 GDPR). More information: MapTiler Privacy Policy.
Fonts
All fonts are hosted on this website itself. No connection to external font providers such as Google Fonts is made.
Local storage
If you switch between light and dark mode, pick a wallpaper, move a window or change the text size of the reader, your choice is stored in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it on your next visit. Whether the start-up animation has already played is stored in your browser's session storage until you close the tab. This information never leaves your device. Storing it is strictly necessary to provide the functions you requested (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG).
Contact by e-mail
If you contact me by e-mail, I process your e-mail address and the content of your message to answer your request. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, or Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR if your request relates to a contract. I delete the data once it is no longer needed, unless statutory retention periods apply.
External links
This website links to external sites, such as LinkedIn and my other projects. No data is transmitted to them until you click a link. From then on, the respective operator's privacy policy applies.
Your rights
You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16 GDPR), erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR) and data portability (Art. 20 GDPR). Where processing is based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, you have the right to object to it on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR). To exercise these rights, contact me at the e-mail address above.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).
This policy is effective as of October 2026.
